List of RBI Governors
The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India is the
CEO of the Central Bank of India.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the highest
banking authority of India. Since its establishment in 1935, by the British
colonial government, many have worked on the post of the Governor of the
Reserve Bank of India.
The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India is the
Chief Executive Officer of the Central Bank of India and the Ex-officio
Chairman of its Central Board of Directors. The Indian note issued by the
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bears the signature of the Governor of the Reserve
Bank of India.
The first Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was
Sir Osborne Smith, while C.D. Deshmukh was the first Indian Governor of the
Reserve Bank of India.
While all denominations of Indian currency notes are
signed by RBI Governor, as a convention the one rupee note continued to be
signed by Finance Secretary. The One Rupee note is issued by the Ministry of
Finance and it bears the signature of Finance Secretary.India stopped printing
One Rupee notes after 1994, and again it resumed in 2015.
